Game Ten
Post 22 powers
past west into final four

Sam Wolff tossed a complete game for Post 22.
ABERDEEN -- Post 22 coupled timely
hitting with a solid pitching performance as it survived elimination for
a second time on Friday night, besting Sioux Falls West 11-7. Sam Wolff
and Jarrett Jensen led Post 22 in both the field and at the plate as
Post 22 broke an even game wide open with a seven-run seventh inning.
After going back and forth for the first six innings, West
held a 6-4 advantage heading into that fateful top of the seventh. Post
22 would proceed to have nine runners reach base in the inning,
including nine of the first ten (with the exception being a sacrifice
fly by Sean Estes). Post 22 would record seven runs (four earned), five
hits, two walks and six RBI in the inning, chasing starting pitcher
Derek Bahrenfuss.
Wolff would have a strong outing for Post 22, as he went the
distance on 130 pitches in a complete game outing while relying on a
solid team defensive performance. Wolff would only walk three hitters on
the night, and two superior defensive plays keyed the victory. In the
fifth inning, Sioux Falls West's Ryan Hander hit a line drive off of the
wall in left-center field with the bases loaded, but a fake by left
fielder Sean Estes held the baserunners to a single-base advance. Wolff
would escape the inning giving up only that lone run.
Again, Rapid's defense helped close out the victory. After
striking for one run in the bottom half of the ninth to draw within four
runs, Nate Kirby of Sioux Falls West lined a hard shot down the first
base line, only to be robbed by Post 22 first baseman Jake Bohne. Bohne
then won a footrace to the bag at first to double off Hander, and then
fired a strike to second to complete a triple play as Erik DeJong also
thought the ball had got through the infield.
Post 22 will now play the winner of the Mitchell/Post 320
matchup tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 P.M. in yet another elimination game.

Jarrett Jensen beats a high throw home with the
go-ahead run in the seventh inning for Post 22. |
