Game One
Watertown
bests Post 22 with 8th inning comeback

Adam Renner and teammate Max Fuller celebrate their
first round victory over Post 22.
ABERDEEN -- Watertown Post 17 rode
the right arm of Adam Renner to a 3-2 victory in game one of the 2008
State American Legion Tournament on Wednesday morning over perrenial
powerhouse Rapid City Post 22. Renner scattered nine hits in his
complete game victory, walking two and striking out five.
Rapid City had its share of chances throughout the game, as
they stranded 12 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in
the ninth inning. Jordan Mette posted three hits for the Hardhats, and
scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on a Brock Estes single.
Watertown, meanwhile, had just enough production from its
offense to pull out the victory. Eight of the nine Watertown hitters
collected one hit, with Nate VanLaecken posting two. Watertown also
benefitted from three extra base hits, including a triple from Blake
Turbak in the eight inning to start the comeback for Post 17.
Watertown will next play against the winner of the Rapid City
Post 320/Parkston match-up at 5:00 Thursday evening, while Post 22 will
face the loser of that game in a 10:30 A.M. elimination match-up on
Thursday morning.
