Champions
Several Formats have been used to determine a state champion in American Legion Baseball in South Dakota. Beginning with the inaugural season in 1926, only one state tournament was held, with one champion being crowned. 1950 saw the dawn of two classes of state tournaments, with a best of three championship series being held to determine a sole state champion. From 1979-1989, the top two teams from the State 'B' Tournament would advance to play in the State 'A' Tournament. The years of 1990-1993 saw all Class 'A' teams being invited to the State tournament, in addition to the two Class 'B' representatives. It wasn't until 1994 that the current system, involving one Class 'B' representative and seven Class 'A' teams was used.
